Sylvester Oromoni: Lagos Govt Seals Off Dowen College, Begins Probe

Dowen College in the Lekki district of Lagos has been closed by the Lagos State Government following the horrible death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni.

Officials from the state government sealed off the school on Sunday, according to our source.

Gbenga Omotosho, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, verified the news on Sunday.

Recall that, previously it was stated that the father of the deceased boarding student claimed his son died as a result of injuries incurred during an assault by colleagues attempting to initiate him into cultism, while the school said he died as a result of an injury sustained during a football game.

Sylvester Oromoni Snr, the deceased student’s father, had named five boys who he said were involved in his son’s bullying.

The father had also said the teachers, security men, and other officials of the school must explain the death of his son, whose 12th birthday was December 4 (Saturday).

With the national outrage the case has attracted since Oromoni’s death on November 30, 2021, federal and state governments have taken a number of actions.

The Lagos State Government ordered the school’s closure indefinitely on Friday, awaiting the outcome of an inquiry into Sylvester’s death.

The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, also instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section, Panti, to take over the investigation of the matter immediately on Saturday.

Sylvester’s death is one of many recent deaths in boarding secondary schools as a result of bullying and molestations.

Karen-Happuch Akpagher of Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, had died of sexual molestation in June 2021 while Don Davies of Deeper Life High School, Uyo, had also narrowly escaped death in December 2020, when his mother raised the alarm of alleged sodomy of her emaciated son.
