No fewer than five persons have been confirmed dead after a petrol-laden tanker exploded on Wednesday along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The tanker exploded in the early hours of Wednesday, around Tunji Alegi Filling Station, Kwakyama Area of Ogere in Ogun State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who confirmed the fire outbreak, said “the spill has affected some other vehicles parked at the hard shoulder of the road.”
Spokesperson of the FRSC in Ogun, Florence Okpe, said, “A total of five persons were burnt beyond recognition.
“They were recovered from one of the crashed trucks and have been deposited at FOS Morgue Ipara.”
Okpe added that traffic had been diverted to avoid secondary crash.
“Motorists are advised to remain calm and cooperate with traffic managers,” she pleaded.
It was gathered that rescue operations by fire fighters and police operatives from Gateway Police Station are still ongoing.
