Fake doctor apprehended in Osun

A quack veterinary doctor operating in Osogbo was on Monday apprehended by officials of the Osun State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

Making this known in Osogbo during a press briefing, the Director, Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agric, Dr Abosede Olatokun revealed that the culprit who had been going about injecting pets and animals and duping unsuspecting residents of the Osogbo was arrested upon his failure to produce his Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) number when requested.

Olatokun stated that the culprit who is a resident of Old Governor’s Office Area of Osogbo has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation.

She warned members of the public especially pet owners to be wary of the activities of individuals who pose as veterinary doctors who go about duping unsuspecting victims.

While warning that any quack doctor arrested will be made to face the full wrath of the law, Olatokun also advised members of the public to desist from patronising fake veterinary doctors as doing so puts the life of their pets and other animals at risk.

Recall that in March 2021, the Osun State House of Assembly moved to pass the Osun State Private Veterinary Premises and Ambulatory Practice (registration) bill 2021 and in August, the bill was passed into law.

One of the benefits of the law is that it will boost animal production and check quacks in the veterinary profession and create an enabling environment for veterinary doctors in the state.
