President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N2.5 billion as a seed grant for the National Senior Citizens Center (NSCC).
Sadiya Farouq, Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Minister made this known on Thursday during a one-day consultation with southern zone stakeholders on the development of the NSCC strategic plan in Lagos, reports NOPE.
Recall that the NSCC 2018 law was signed by Buhari to allow the creation of the center by the institutions and the three levels of government to meet the needs of the elderly.
Farouq, who was represented by Mr. Mansur Kuliya, the ministry’s acting director of social services, said the grant was currently being processed to be paid to the center.
She noted that the grant would be used to identify strategic priorities, processes and approaches that would give impetus to the center to achieve its mandate of integrating older people.
The minister said the center was working with relevant stakeholders to brainstorm and generate ideas for the development of a 10-year strategic plan.
She added that “this consultation indicates the commitment of the ministry, the board of directors and the management of the center to ensure the full implementation of the program of the President for the establishment of the center.
“The ministry and the center will ensure that the country benefits from the wisdom and richness of the experiences of older people.
