The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps NSCDC has arrested a 28th-year-old woman Aishatu Yahaya for throwing her baby into a pit latrine in Hadejia local government area of Jigawa State.
Spokesman of the Command SC. Adamu Shehu confirmed this in a press statement issued to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital.
He said the suspect who is a divorcee, mother of four (4) and neighbour to the house where the baby was discovered, was arrested on Thursday, 23rd day of September 2021.
Adamu explained that the woman was arrested following the sampling of nine (9) pregnant women living in the area.
He said “the selected women underwent thorough medical examinations to unravel the one who gave birth recently and on the process, the identified woman confessed to have dumped the baby in a pit latrine after she got the pregnant out of wedlock”.
Narrating the incident to DAILY POST the woman said a week before the incident she complained to the person responsible for the pregnancy that she is uncomfortable with the pregnancy.
“I complained to the person responsible for the pregnancy one Yahaya Garba that I am not comfortable with it, he gave me five thousand to buy drugs to abort the pregnancy.”
“Therefore after I had taken the drugs, I started bleeding which eventually led to the still birth at around 1000hrs.”
” I then decided to dump the dead body and then sneaked into my neighbor’s residence and dumped the dead body in a pit latrine while he was not around.”
NSCDC Spokesman noted that it arrested the person responsible for the pregnancy one Yahaya Garba.
He said the the two suspects will be charged to court after investigation.
