Police in Kano State have arrested a man and his wife over alleged kidnapping of a newborn baby at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital Kano.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to DAILY POST.
He said the new born baby was kidnapped on Wednesday after a woman delivered twins at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital Kano where she was admitted.
Kiyawa explained that the incident happened when a woman’s sister, who was looking after the babies at the corridor of the Maternity ward, slept off.
He said a team of policemen immediately stormed the scene and launched a search where the Hospital.
He added that the hospital was sealed off and thoroughly combed, but the child could not be found.
“Sustained efforts, coupled with intelligence sharing led to the arrest of one Maryam Sadiq and her husband Abubakar Sadiq all of Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, Kano,” he said.
Kiyawa said the child was recovered from them in their home and had been reunited with the family.
The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command for discreet investigation and would be charged to court after the investigation.
