Updated: Police Officer Killed as Robbers Attack Banks in Southwest State

A Police Officer has been killed by some notorious robbers during a robbery attack as well as carting away an undisclosed amount of cash in the process.

The Robbers attacked UBA and Access Bank on Thursday in Iree, Osun state.

The officer said to have been shot dead was a Police Constabulary Unit of The Nigeria Police Force, identified as Jelili Aladeokin.

A student of the popular institution in the community, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, confirmed the incident.

“The robbers arrived at the banks some minutes to 3:50pm and operated for about 20 minutes before they fled.”, He said.

The armed Robbers numbering at least 15, according to sources, came in different vehicles while they stationed themselves at strategic locations within the town while the operation lasted.

“The robbers escaped through Ada/Iree road shooting into the air as they fled the area, adding that one person was shot. He is a man and he died instantly,” According to the report.

One of the Residents who were reportedly sustained gunshots are one Gbedu who was said to have been shot at leg.

Meanwhile, the injured were conveyed to a private hospital, for treatment while the corpses of the deceased has been evacuated.

Police react
The Police spokesperson in the state, Yemisi Opalola, said, “our tactical teams had been deployed to the area.”
