Major General Hassan Ahmed, who was assassinated in Abuja on Thursday night in the Abaji area of the FCT has been laid to rest amid tears.
The former Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, Ahmed, was buried at Lungi Barracks Cemetery, Abuja.
VAM News had earlier reported that gunmen opened fire on Ahmed’s vehicle, who was recently appointed a Director at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
The assailants also whisked his wife away while his driver survived but sustained injury.
It was learnt that the couple were coming from Okene in Kogi state when they were attacked.
In a statement, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, army spokesman, confirmed the death of Ahmed.
He said the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, had already sent a delegation to condole with the victim’s family.
Nwachukwu also stated that members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) led by the Deputy National President, Mrs Stella Omozoje, have also visited the family to condole with them.
