A policeman has been feared dead following an attack by gunmen on a routine police patrol team in Delta state.

The gunmen also burnt down the patrol vehicle and carted away rifles soon after the other officers fled.

According to a Facebook page, Wong Box, the Wednesday incident occurred along Otulu Junction, Akwukwu-Igbo, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

The post read, “Unknown Gunmen (UGM) attacked policemen on duty along Otulu AKWUKWU IGBO road this morning.

“A policeman has been confirmed dead, police vehicle also burnt.”

This is coming barely 10 days after some gunmen attacked Nsukwa Divisional Police Station in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state, killing three officers and a suspect.

There has been a spate of attacks on security agencies in the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones of the country, which has compounded the security challenges in the two regions.
